About me…

Welcome to the Cycling Blogger site! I’m Doug, a 50-something who’s been riding bikes for as long as I can remember. I remember the first bike my parents gave me as a gift back in the 70s, a Schwinn Sting-Ray with a banana seat and high handlebars. This bike was my primary mode of transportation, and it took me everywhere around the neighborhood. Since my family was a Schwinn family through-and-through, when it came time to get my next bike, it had to be a Schwinn – I chose the Varsity (circa the 1980s). The Varsity, which I scrimped and saved from my paper route, provided newfound freedom. I remember disappearing for the day on long bike rides, exploring the local farm back roads. The bike followed me to Germany, where the Air Force sent me.  While there, I sold it to a dorm-rat and upgraded to yet another Schwinn – Traveler.  My wife followed up with a Cannondale ST600 (around 1991), I put a lot of miles on this bike, traveling the back roads of Rheinland/Saarland Pfalz Germany and across the border into France.  My Cannondale served me well for about 20 years of riding and stationary mag-rollers. My most recent bike is a Motobecane Le Champion CF, I purchased it post-deployment to Afghanistan (2012). This bike has seen the Bodensee Radmarathon (2012), completed the 2012 Le Tour de France Prologue stage in Liege, Belgium, a tour around Crater Lake (Ride the Rim), and many others (until t-boned by a driver – April 2017). My next and current bike is a Motobecane Sprint “gravel bike” with disc brakes. Enjoy the blog as I post updates on my rides and post reviews of products as I come across them.
